Using this app as part of our Who We Are unit will allow students to take a more hands-on approach in learning more about other states, as well as, their own.įor students, they are learning information about states in a fun and interesting way. Being so far away from the continental United States makes it easy for children here to forget or not care about other states because they are so far away from them. Children who grow up in Hawaii many times do not know much about the mainland states. What makes the use of this app innovative is the fact that this app can be used to learn about other states. Innovation of this app and New ideas in classrooms: I can also measure the success through the motivation and excitement the children have to use this app and the frequency in which this app is used. In this assignment students create a written description and picture of a state. I will also be able to see through our unit assignments, which include a mini research on a state or country, that there family members come from or currently live in. The more states you get the better you are doing at learning about the states in the USA. I would implement this with the whole class and also allow children to use this app during centers time to explore more on their own or in small groups.Įvaluation: I will measure the success by number of states gained on the USA map that is included in this app. They can use this knowledge in our unit to discover more about the places our families come from and what makes where we live and others live unique and different. Since we live in Hawaii this app can help students to begin to learn about the states in which they might not be as familiar with.

This is a unit we do where we talk about where students come from, which includes states and countries (There is also an app called Stack the Countries). Possible Educational Use: I can use this app during our unit entitled Who We Are.

If you stack a state and it falls over then you lose that state for good (for that game).

You need to have 50% correct to earn a state, which can be challenging in the beginning.

Stacking the states to the boarder line can be tricky because the states are bumpy and not perfectly flat.

Some questions repeat so you learn as you go.

Increase number of questions needed to be answered as you get better and better.

There are also other games that can be unlocked including a game on state capitals. The goal is to earn all 50 states and fill your map. Once they reach the top line (which rises higher and higher as the questions get harder) they earn a state.

Students can take those states they earned through correct answers and balance them on top of one another as a special stacking game. Once they get the answer correct that state becomes theirs to stack.
